You can absolutely get back to a place where you enjoy your work again. You don\u2019t have to be relegated to some career prison to simply do your time. If you\u2019re ready to heart your career again, follow these five vital steps to git \u2018er done!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Adjust your mindset<\/strong>. Nip the \u201cI can\u2019t\u201d, \u201cwoe is me\u201d and Eeyore attitude in the bud. Understand that no one will be as invested in your career happiness as you are (or at least should be). Now\u2019s the time to become the CEO of your career, and embrace a positive, can-do attitude to take it in your <em>chosen.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Assess yourself <em>and<\/em> your situation<\/strong>. Get in touch with your <strong><em>why<\/em><\/strong> (i.e. <em>what\u2019s your motivation<\/em>?). Be clear on <em>why<\/em> your work: as a simple means to an end, for growth and advancement potential, and\/or to fulfill your calling (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-living\/adult-health\/in-depth\/job-satisfaction\/art-20046539\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012<\/a>). Also, explore <em>why<\/em> you chose this particular career and <em>why<\/em> you chose this particular job.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Remember what you enjoyed and still enjoy about your job, and ask: wh<em>at\u2019s changed?<\/em> Workplace discontent can stem from any number of things such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boredom<\/li>\n<li>Disenchantment<\/li>\n<li>Lack of fulfillment or purpose<\/li>\n<li>Burnout<\/li>\n<li>A desire to relocate<\/li>\n<li>Changes in lifestyle, priorities and\/or values<\/li>\n<li>Money issues<\/li>\n<li>A simple desire for something \u2026 <em>more<\/em> (even if you can\u2019t quite put your finger on what that is).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you\u2019re in the thick of it, it\u2019s sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees. Enlist your colleagues, family, friends, a mentor, or a career coach for objective direction and perspective in your career reinvigoration efforts.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Consider the future<\/strong>. Think about where you want to be. Ideally, what will your career look like one year from now? In five years? Get clarity on the direction you\u2019d like to go in but understand your limitations as well. Know what you can control, accept what you can\u2019t control, and proceed accordingly.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Put a plan in place<\/strong>. Develop and write down your reinvigoration success plan. Revisit it every so often to modify and reassess it as needed.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Explore your options<\/strong>. Some ways to get started are:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Talking to your boss<\/strong>. Cultivate a plan that addresses your preferences while also demonstrating how your proposed changes will benefit the company\u2019s bottom line. Possible fixes include (but are not limited to):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exploring promotion prospects.<\/li>\n<li>Increasing your task variety or your level of responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>Changing functions.<\/li>\n<li>Changes in compensation (i.e. a raise).<\/li>\n<li>More recognition.<\/li>\n<li>Increased career development efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stretching yourself<\/strong>. Sharpen your skills through continued professional development; upping your game just might be what the doctor ordered for your career woes. Also, be open to challenging yourself and doing new things such as heading a new project, public speaking, becoming a mentor, etc. You might enjoy your something new more than you expected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Networking<\/strong>. Get out of the office and get connected. Talk to your fellow colleagues and seasoned professionals who have been where you are to get back on track. Listen to their advice on how to best move beyond your rut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Considering a career change<\/strong>. If you find, when all is said and done, that your heart is no longer in this job, now\u2019s the time to discover what your ideal career really is.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, there\u2019s no one size fits all option for bringing life back to your career; what works for you may not work for someone else.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok \u2026 time to get back to happy in your career!
