\"workplace<\/a>Does your organization have formalized performance standards in the form of KPI\u2019s – key performance indicators?\u00a0You may not call them KPI\u2019s but it is\u00a0likely that you have\u00a0performance expectations defined in specific, measurable terms.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Those standards might include project completion or budget analysis or customer service targets or reduction of expenses, etc.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Leaders have a vital responsibility to craft effective KPIs, communicate them, and hold team leaders and team members accountable for delivering or exceeding those performance expectations.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Explicitly clear KPI\u2019s help team leaders and team members know what their performance targets are and then align practices and behaviors to exceed those targets.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It is unfair of leaders to expect staff to guess what the performance targets are. Team leaders and team members have the right to know the specific performance targets they\u2019ll be held accountable for.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
There is one more important right that every employee deserves: Work Place Inspiration – or WPI.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Work\u00a0place inspiration is the result of senior leaders\u2019 intentional focus on crafting policies, procedures, and practices that ensure that every member of their organization is consistently treated with trust, respect, and dignity, in every interaction.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Not \u201csometimes.” Not “most of the time.”\u00a0Every interaction<\/i>.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The problem is that most senior leaders don\u2019t pay attention to how their organization is operating – they focus all their attention on how the organization is performing.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Performance is important but it is no more important than maintaining a work environment that is inspiring and engaging, not frustrating and draining.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It is unfair of leaders to expect staff to create work place inspiration\u00a0on their own. They don\u2019t know how\u00a0– and, it\u2019s not their responsibility. It\u2019s\u00a0the responsibility of senior leaders to make\u00a0create their work environment safe, trusting,\u00a0and respectful.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

How can leaders be intentional about work place inspiration?\u00a0By creating and aligning practices to an\u00a0organizational constitution \u2013 a formalized statement of agreements outlining how their organization will deliver promised performance (KPIs) in alignment with the organization\u2019s valued behaviors (WPI\u00a0practices).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
