You’re thinking, \u201cDid I read that correctly?\u00a0 Did the Blogger of\u00a0LeadingWithQuestions.com<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0reall<\/span>y just say there are times when you shouldn\u2019t ask a question?\u201d<\/p>\n

YES \u2013 He Did!<\/p>\n

You give a great speech with a superb opening, stories, and instantly implementable content. So far, your speech has been 10 out of 10!<\/p>\n

Then, when you reach the end of your speech and ask your audience, \u201cAre there any questions?\u201d You hear nothing but crickets\u2014awkward silence, which doesn\u2019t end. The deafening silence continues, and no one raises their hands to ask a question. So you finally say, \u201cThank You Very Much!\u201d and walk away from the podium.<\/p>\n

Your incredibly well-done speech ended with a nose-dive.\u00a0 It crashed!\u00a0 Your last impression was a \u201c0\u201d out of 10.\u00a0 Yes, you shot yourself in the foot!\u00a0 Yes, it was a self-inflicted wound!<\/p>\n

So, what can you do differently?<\/p>\n

Might you want to save your best story for the end?<\/p>\n

Would you end with a terrific quote?<\/p>\n

A bunch of years ago, I was in the audience when I saw the speaker (I would tell you his name if I could remember \u2013 I do remember the speaker was a man) make incredible use of his and everyone\u2019s cell phones.\u00a0 Instead of asking the audience to turn off\/silence\/put away their cell phones, he asked everyone to get them out.\u00a0 He then shared his number and asked everyone in the audience to text him their answer.\u00a0 \u00a0He then shared 10-15 of their answers and then asked another question and shared 10-15 of their answers.<\/p>\n

He repeated this process once or twice during his talk. The audience was engaged. They were not just listening to a conversation; they were participants in his presentation.<\/p>\n

Near the end of his talk, he asked the audience a question!\u00a0 No \u2013 he didn\u2019t ask, \u201cAre there any questions?\u201d\u00a0 Instead, he asked them to pull out their cell phones again and share one thing they would implement due to his talk!<\/p>\n

WOW!\u00a0 He scored a 10 out of 10 from beginning to end!\u00a0 Truthfully, I seldom come up with great new ways to do something!\u00a0 But I love to copy brilliance!\u00a0 And I have been using what I observed that day in every \u201cLeading With Questions\u201d presentation I have done since!<\/p>\n
