Team members become implementers rather than innovators. They focus on completing an assignment instead of solving a problem.<\/p>\n<p>A better approach is to provide clarity about the desired outcome and then engage people with questions.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of saying, \u201cHere\u2019s the solution,\u201d ask:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What do you think might be the best way to achieve this result?<\/li>\n<li>What options should we consider?<\/li>\n<li>What obstacles do you foresee?<\/li>\n<li>How might we create even greater value for our customers?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When people are invited to wrestle with the challenge rather than simply execute instructions, ownership increases. Creativity expands. Better ideas emerge.<\/p>\n<p>The leader\u2019s role is not always to have the best answer. Those that continue relying on top-down directives may get compliance, but they often miss out on insight, initiative, and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>People support what they help create. Questions are one of the most powerful ways to invite them into that process.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMost leaders were never taught to facilitate conversations \u2013 they were taught to dominate them.\u00a0 They learned to have all the answers, not to unlock the collective intelligence already in the room.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0Gustavo Razzetti<\/p>\n<p>My friend\u00a0Terrence Donahue\u00a0shares,\u00a0<em>\u201cYour staff may carry out your instructions, but they own only what they help create.
