{"id":5143,"date":"2015-11-14T11:36:35","date_gmt":"2015-11-14T19:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/?p=5143"},"modified":"2015-11-14T11:36:36","modified_gmt":"2015-11-14T19:36:36","slug":"the-winds-of-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/the-winds-of-change\/","title":{"rendered":"The Winds of Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/the-winds-of-change\/attachment\/winds-of-change\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5144\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5144\" src=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/winds-of-change.jpg\" alt=\"winds of change\" width=\"386\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/winds-of-change.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/winds-of-change-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/winds-of-change-480x321.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a>Most of the time I write an article with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek.\u00a0 I include such taglines as above for the sake of grabbing an audience who otherwise would ignore any article by most authors based solely on their belief that the reader is far too busy or their time is far too valuable then to sit through an offering such as this.<\/p>\n<p>Grant it it\u2019s not a \u201cbest of times, worst of times\u201d hook but it does get you looking.\u00a0 So why do we feel so strongly about change?\u00a0 When we were little change meant we were growing up.\u00a0 We got taller, we were stronger, we started to understand more of the world around us, and as we developed many of us felt empowered.\u00a0 Maybe around the time we were able to drive, or vote, or buy a drink.\u00a0 Then this magical thing happens to a lot of people where they become cynical.\u00a0 We begin to see change as a bad thing where someone wants to take what I have.\u00a0 Sometimes it\u2019s from the baggage of the same growing up experience which leaves us scarred to what others think or say about us, or even do to us which prevents us from comprehending change as a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong I am not a Pollyanna.\u00a0 When the tax laws change I don\u2019t do a jig and say whoopee!\u00a0 \u00a0Some changes are going to leave a lasting impression on us.\u00a0 It\u2019s how we allow the changes to be perceived that helps us determine what we do with the experience.\u00a0 To some degree we place the experiences in life in a couple very black and white categories.\u00a0 This was good, that was bad.\u00a0 That made me feel good, this one hurt my feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare once wrote \u201cnothing is neither good nor bad but thinking makes it so\u201d, simply put ol\u2019 Bill was pointing to the power of our perception.\u00a0 My initial responses to things isn\u2019t always positive but by trying to stop a moment, take in the issue, and then being open to possibilities there have been many times when things which felt foul turned out to be fair.\u00a0 If anything it gave me an opportunity to watch others as they expressed their responses to the changes.\u00a0 By watching others, I was able to gauge their ability to handle change and even model behavior of others I felt best modeled professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the time I write an article with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek.\u00a0 I include such taglines as above for the sake of grabbing an audience who otherwise would ignore any article by most authors based solely on their belief that the reader is far too busy or their time is far [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":31,"featured_media":5144,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_cbd_carousel_blocks":"[]","_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[41],"class_list":["post-5143","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-career-advice","tag-career-advice-2"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 - Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member. Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member.
