Essential Job Functions: Review enterprise infrastructure technologies annually and recommend upgrades and enhancements. Design and implement network infrastructure for new buildings and data flows, making periodic adjustments to assure that capacity is not overreached. Ensure the operation of and resolve problems with network and communication systems to minimize disruption to users and prevent data loss. Support, build, and maintain routers and switches and all wiring and other communication mediums to affect solid, reliable network services to all departments in all locations. Assist in evaluating new software and system purchases for network and communications compatibility. Manage and assure that the infrastructure team is utilizing superior customer support procedures with customers, i.e. is entering tickets and performing follow up calls and creating documentation. Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity and services meets existing and future requirements. Assure that backups are occurring at appropriate times, tested and retained, per policy, to prevent data loss and service disruptions. Supervise the network component inventory and maintain accurate records of assets, contracts, and licenses. Ensure that all battery backup (UPS) systems are maintained and/or replaced to assure that they are operating at optimum levels. Ensure that all switch closets and data center rooms are always managed environmentally and professionally maintained and clean. Oversee the change control process for all department changes. Conduct research and make recommendations on infrastructure products, services, protocols, and standards in support of infrastructure procurement and development efforts. Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for IT projects and associated efforts. Manage and ensure effectiveness of core and site switching, firewalls, access devices, storage access networks, servers, and backup servers, and their associated operating systems and software. Develop and approve maintenance plan schedules to maintain system and equipment health Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communication with the City's management, department Directors, stakeholders, and end users regarding pertinent network activities. Test network and server performance and provide performance statistics, metrics and reports; develops strategies for maintaining infrastructure at peak optimum levels. Provide the proper supervision, work environment, and structure to assure performance and well-being of employees. Develops and document on-going management of network appliances, switching, servers and storage needs. Meet regularly with departments to discuss business initiatives and needs. Manage and make recommendations for the Infrastructure technology budget. Oversee network and server/storage assets, ensuring that the network is designed to a 99% uptime reliable network data flow, including maintenance of inventory, life cycle management and related documentation. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned
