    Dispatcher

    TITLE: Dispatcher DEPARTMENT: Traffic CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt RATE RANGE: 14 REPORTS TO: Regional Traffic Manager and Alternative Hauling Manager SUPERVISES: N/A
    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the workflow into and out of their designated area of responsibility. This includes the set-up, acknowledgment, investigation, and disposition of domestic claims in accordance with company policy and government regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Coordinates scheduling of van operators and equipment throughout system.
    • Makes certain that customers' service requirements are provided by the van operators.
    • Monitors location of assigned van operators and communicates to agents, drivers and customers all necessary information to effectively keep all individuals informed as to the status of any shipment dispatched to be serviced.
    • Receives information of actual or anticipated disruptions of service and determines action required to rectify conditions.
    • Monitors the line haul production of their assigned van operators to ensure that they are operating in a manner that maintains and increases profitability.
    • Monitors the scheduling of customers' needs to ensure that the van operator can comply with all ICC and DOT regulations.
    OTHER FUNCTIONS: Develop positive working relationships with agents, drivers and staff that enhance teamwork. Is proactive in making sure that customers, agents and van operators' needs are met or exceeded. Overtime is occasionally required, Saturday work is required, and during peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) Paid Time Off (PTO) is limited. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Six months related experience is preferred. Strong oral communication skills. Ability to calculate figures and solve problems effectively. Computer experience, specifically Microsoft Office, is recommended. REQUIRED EDUCATION: High school education or equivalent. Advanced education is preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: This position is an in-office position. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. SAFETY HAZARDS OF THE JOB: This position is an in-office position with minimal hazards.
