Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

At Union Sanitary District, the work we do isn’t always visible—but it’s essential. Every day, we protect public health and the environment by providing wastewater services that keep our communities safe and sustainable.

We’re looking for a Legislative and Communications Coordinator who is passionate about public service and wants to help tell that story.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how a vital public agency connects with its community, elected officials, and stakeholders. If you’re someone who enjoys translating complex topics into meaningful, engaging content—and wants your work to have a real impact—this role offers purpose, variety, and influence.

    Why Join Us?
    • Serve Your Community: Your work directly supports environmental protection and public health.
    • Be a Strategic Voice: Help guide messaging that informs residents, leaders, and decision-makers.
    • Engage Beyond the Office: Represent the District at community events, regional groups, and legislative forums.
    • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with leadership and departments to bring important stories and initiatives to life.
    • Do Meaningful Work Every Day: From legislation tracking to public outreach, no two days are the same.

    Examples of Duties

    What You’ll Do

In this dynamic, journey-level role, you’ll coordinate the District’s communications and legislative efforts, including:
    • Developing compelling content—press releases, social media, videos, newsletters, and presentations—to inform and engage the public
    • Managing and enhancing the District’s website and digital presence
    • Leading community outreach and public education efforts
    • Monitoring and analyzing federal, state, and local legislation and providing timely updates to leadership
    • Building relationships with media, community organizations, and government partners
    • Supporting strategic messaging and advising teams on effective communication approaches
    • Helping plan and promote events that connect the public to the District’s mission

This position plays a key role in ensuring our community understands the value of the services we provide and the policies that shape them.
This position is required to represent the District and its interests at various events at the local, regional, State or Federal level. These events may require travel occasionally, including overnight stays, (e.g. CASA, NACWA or CWEA) and the events are typically after normal business hours or weekends.

    Qualifications

    What We’re Looking For

    We’re seeking:
    • A skilled communicator who can make technical information clear and engaging
    • A strategic thinker who understands the role of public agencies in the community
    • A collaborative partner who thrives in a team-based environment
    • A strong writer and editor with experience across multiple platforms
    • Comfortable working with legislative and regulatory information and translating it for diverse audiences
    • Organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities

    Typical Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public administration, journalism, or a related field
    • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in communications or public relations

    The Impact You’ll Have

    Your work will:
    • Increase public understanding of essential wastewater services
    • Support informed decision-making at the local and state level
    • Strengthen trust between the District and the communities we serve
    • Help shape policies that protect our environment for future generations

    Join a Mission That Matters

If you’re looking for more than just a job—if you want to contribute to something meaningful and serve your community—we invite you to apply.

Be part of a team that makes a difference every day.
