DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTION S Houston Public Works is seeking candidates who can:
• Supervise electrical maintenance of water treatment plants and facilities.
• Reviews blueprints and other technical data to check for appropriate electrical code and specification requirements.
• Prepare and supervise preventive maintenance and training programs.
• Administer departmental policies and procedures related to operational and personnel activities.
• Coordinate site specific maintenance activities with outside contractors, City departments, etc.
• Maintains materials, tools and equipment to provide necessary maintenance.
• Ensure preventative/corrective maintenance tasks are carried out in timely and efficient manner.
• Respond to emergency calls for electrical issues.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of journey level experience in the area of electrical work to be performed, either as an inside electrician or an outside lineman, are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the city of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems and knowledge of electrical controls. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in obtaining budgetary quotes, supervision of electrical personnel, and scheduling vendor activities.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
