GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Resource Manager and in coordination with the Regional Interpretive Specialist, Assistant Park Superintendent, and Park Superintendent, this position performs routine (journey-level) state park operations work including interpretation and the preservation of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the park's historical significance and biodiversity to varied audiences. Researches, plans, and conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes, special events, and promotes outreach programs with schools, civic groups, scouts, and other organizations. Assists with the park's public outreach effort. Assists with the park's promotional efforts through social media and other outlets. Assists with managing the park's volunteer program, including both day volunteers and park hosts. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
NOTE: Temporary position may fluctuate between full-time/part-time hours based on operational needs.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience: No experience required.
Licensure: Must possess a valid state driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Geology, Anthropology/Archeology, History, or closely related field.
Experience: Experience in customer service.
Experience in park operations.
Experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs.
Licensure: Currently a Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Interpretive Host, or possession of a similar certification from the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).

WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.
Required to work 10 to 40 hours per week, including various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
This position will fluctuate between part-time and full-time status throughout the term of employment. Changing from part-time to full-time and vice versa may impact the amount of leave accrued, eligibility for longevity pay, and health insurance rates.
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
May be required to operate a State vehicle.
