    POSITION TITLE: Professor of Practice - Full-time Lecturer

    POSITION DETAILS:

    The Department of Construction Management (CM) at Sacramento State is designed for students who enter professional practice immediately upon graduation. The CM program curriculum and teaching methods are therefore practical in nature, providing hands-on experience for students through labs and class projects. Graduates of the CM program enjoy an excellent reputation among regional employers and many move quickly into leadership roles on large projects. The CM program enrolls over 500 undergraduate students, offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management with a minor degree in Business Administration.

    The Professor of Practice position is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment designed to bring the expertise of distinguished construction management professionals into the academic environment to enhance student learning and strengthen connections with industry partners.

    Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate students in the candidate’s areas of expertise, course and curriculum development, student mentorship, and program-related activities. Development of scholarly work, while encouraged, is not required.

    This is a full-time position for a fixed term of one academic year, renewable contingent upon funding, programmatic need, and performance.

    Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional and/or teaching experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. The classification salary range for the for this position is:
    • Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224

    The salary ranges indicated is based on a "full-time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount.

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This is a full-time appointment equivalent to 15 weighted teaching units (WTU) per semester. The assigned workload includes 12 WTU of instructional duties and 3 WTU of assigned time for additional work in service of the department.

    This position may include responsibilities for additional employment:
    • Teach a variety of undergraduate construction management courses.
    • Participate in curriculum and coursework development.
    • Advise students, assist with orientations.
    • Contribute to Department, College and University level committee work.
    • Engage in student-related activities, such as coaching teams for student competitions, serving as student club faculty advisor, or supporting the summer bootcamp.
    • Identify construction field trip locations, obtain permission to visit these sites from responsible party (Prime Contractor, Owner etc.), and lead student field trips to these construction sites.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering or a similar profession.
    • Seven-years (minimum) domestic construction experience in commercial building, engineering, or specialty subcontracting segments of the industry.
    • Professional experience in which the applicant has held position(s) with responsibility for and authority to plan, schedule, monitor, and control construction projects or significant portions of large projects.
    • Professional experience and demonstrated competency in several of the following areas, such as:
      • Estimating;
      • Project management;
      • Planning and scheduling;
      • Construction operations and productivity management,
      • Construction safety;
      • Computer applications in construction;
      • Labor relations or construction law; or
      • Specialty contracting (e.g., MEPF).
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability and commitment to effectively teach undergraduate courses in a variety of construction management classes to a diverse student population.
    • Commitment to enhance interaction with the construction industry in support of the CM Program.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • College-level teaching experience.
    • Local/Regional construction industry experience.
    • Contemporary estimating and project management experiences.
    • Master’s degree in construction, civil engineering, or similar discipline. Candidates with other professional degrees (MBA, juris doctorate, etc.) in addition to a bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering or a similar profession may also be considered.

    APPOINTMENT:

    This is a full-time instructional position within the Lecturer classification, beginning Fall 2026; salary and range determination commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Project scope(s) of work under your direct supervision (e.g. field operations, project management/office operations, self-performed work, subcontracted work), and A detailed description of your specific roles, responsibilities, and project leadership experience.
    3. Detailed Resumé or Curriculum Vitae: Include the following within your CV or resumé:
    List of construction, engineering, and/or accounting-related software, with brief description of competency and experience in each; Names, emails, and telephone numbers of at least three recent references who can address your professional qualifications. At a minimum, references must include: Peer (colleague or coworker) Supervisor (current or former) Professional/Client reference from within the construction industry
    4. Unofficial Transcripts: Submit unofficial transcripts of all college-level coursework. Official transcripts will be required prior to appointment.

    5. Statement of Teaching Philosophy: Provide a written statement describing your teaching philosophy and approach to student learning.

    6. Inclusivity/Diversity Statement: A written statement describing your experience working with diverse populations and your commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment. The statement should address how your professional experience and/or teaching practices support student success in an inclusive educational environment.
