The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries. in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. It provides public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato.

ABOUT THE POSITIONThere is one full-time (37.5 hours per week) regular hire vacancy with the Marin City branch.
The Community Library Specialist (CLS) is a newly created position designed to support the development of diverse, community-focused programs and services across Marin City with a particular focus on reaching and supporting adults in the community. This role extends the reach of our branch, ensuring that all residents have access to library resources.
Under general supervision from the Librarian II, the adult services Community Library Specialist performs a variety of professional duties including general reference services for all ages, community outreach, programming for adult and teen patrons in Marin City, as well as assisting the Librarian II with maintaining the adult collections at the branch. The incumbent is expected to work independently and take a material role in library operations, in addition to performing related work as required.
This Community Library Specialist position in the Marin City branch will have a strong focus on building and maintaining community partnerships with local organizations. This includes developing programs and services to support the adult Marin City community in their lifelong learning pursuits. This position will also work in partnership with both the Children's Services Librarian I and the Makerspace Coordinator to provide programming for teens and adults that centers joyful learning, community centered empowerment and collective impact with community partners to inform the scope and direction of the work
Duties for the Community Library Specialist include:
- Building strong relationships with local organizations and community members.
- Developing and implementing responsive, inclusive programming that reflects community needs and interests.
- Attending community events to provide information about library services and conducting presentations to community groups.
- Assisting with developing informational and promotional materials, such as flyers, posters, and brochures for use at events.
- Tracking local community issues, demographics, and trends to proactively identify opportunities for responsive programming.
The weekly schedule for this position is:
Sunday 11:30 am - 5 pm
Monday 11:30 am - 8 pm
Tuesday 11:30 am - 8 pm
Wednesday 9:30 am - 6 pm
Thursday 9:30 am - 6 pm

A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
