    Job Summary:

    Apprentice Meter Technician aides the Meter Technician with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electric utility metering equipment.

    Roles and Responsibilities:
    • Trains with Meter Technician to learn all aspects of the job duties related to meter technicians.
    • Assists Meter Technician in the programming and installation of residential and commercial electric meters.
    • Assists Meter Technician with investigations and documentation of power fail, tampering, communication failures, and other meter related issues.
    • Assists Meter Technician in performing bench and in the field meter and meter equipment testing.
    • Participates in a four-year Department of Labor certified apprentice meter technician training program.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of basic electrical theory and watt-hour metering.
    • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code.
    • Ability to operate amp meters, meter tester, CT tester, and single-phase meter field tester.
    • Ability to read, interpret reports, records, blueprints, maps, gauges, dials, meters and technical handbooks.


    Qualifications

    • Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One year experience working with an electric utility. Must have a valid Texas Class A CDL Driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 120 days of employment.

    What we offer to our Employees:

    Vacation – Employees will accrue 4 weeks of paid time off (Two weeks are automatically credited to the employee’s bank after successful completion of their introductory period, usually 6 months).
