    Salary:

    Mechanic Automotive I: $18.77 - $23.93

    Mechanic Automotive II: $19.91 - $25.38

    Mechanic Automotive III: $21.10 - $26.90

    Job Description:

    Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems. Inspects, replaces, and/or repairs defective parts. Performs preventative maintenance on City of Orlando automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, street sweepers, equipment, fire trucks and equipment, police cars and/or motorcycles, and small engines. Assigns and oversees work and training of lower-level mechanics. Performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Mechanic Automotive I:

    High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes required. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.

    Mechanic Automotive II:

    High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years of mechanical experience in repairing street sweepers ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class B CDL required. Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Supervisory training desired.

    Mechanic Automotive III:

    High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years of mechanical experience in repairing street sweepers ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class B CDL with Air Brakes required. Must satisfactorily complete two (2) ASE Block Tests or meet all passing requirements for four (4) required academic titles from the mechanical listing

    within one (1) year of hire. Must complete 6,075 hours of on-the-job training, subject to verification by the "Review Board." Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Supervisory training desired.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
