    TPWD MISSION

    PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Lockhart State Park, 2012 State Park Rd. Lockhart, TX 78644

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Park Management Team, this position is responsible for performing complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work, including all phases in the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, and equipment for Lockhart State Park. Operates all types of equipment, such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, and power tools. Repair and maintenance of large equipment, specialized golf course equipment, and vehicles. Provides technical assistance to Park volunteers and staff. Works with the Park Superintendent on park safety programs. Assists with golf course maintenance and operations. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, and registering visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completes all reports as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.



    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Experience :

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public.

    Experience working with volunteers.

    Experience in using power equipment.

    Experience in using heavy equipment.

    Experience with natural & cultural resource management.

    Experience in golf course operations, groundskeeping, golf agronomics, and golf course best management practices (BMP).

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of general facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance.

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

    Knowledge of accounting/accountability of revenue collection.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Knowledge of general custodial duties.

    Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.

    Knowledge of building materials.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Skill in using standard office equipment.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions.

    Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment.

    Skill in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems.

    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    Ability to follow park rules and regulations.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Required to operate a State vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
