    Position Description:
    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Coordinate all functions and activities of the mediation department.
    • Ensures and reviews regular statistical reports generated by the staff.
    • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of program operations and service providers to ensure the goals of the department are being met.
    • Explore and develop new mediation programming ideas and funding resources.
    • Promote the use of mediation programming and services by providing educational materials and information to the public, the Bar, other court personnel, and court-related agencies regarding the mediation process, department procedures, availability of program and differences between mediation, adjudication and other dispute resolution processes.
    • Communication on an as needed basis with the Ohio Supreme Court Office of Dispute Resolution, mediation programs in other Ohio Courts, state agencies and commissions on mediation, and local and national mediation associations.
    • Assists in developing and maintaining standards for court-approved mediators, and as needed, assist in any disciplinary proceedings brought against the court-approved mediators. Provide research and counsel on legal issues related to mediation for department employees and other court employees.
    • Screens cases on a daily basis to determine suitability for mediation. Assist parties in the selection of mediators for private mediation.
    • Conducts mediation assessments with the parties to foster an understanding of mediation as a means to resolve disputes and improve quality of life, describes how the parties’ particular concerns might effectively be addressed by mediation, and encourages the use of mediation for their dispute.
    • Participates in regular meetings with Judges, Court Administrator, and Assistant Court Administrator to review policies and procedures.
    • Determine any instances in which mediation is not appropriate.
    • Keeps a selection of mediators on a court-approved list for referrals.
    Program: Court of Common Pleas Brief Description:
    Job Purpose

    Coordinate all functions and activities of the mediation department and oversees day-to-day operations. Participate in acquisition of mediators for the Court and promote use of alternative dispute resolution programming.
    Job Prerequisites:
    Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
    • One to three years’ experience in operating in a court-connected Mediation Program.
    • One to three years’ experience in Family Dispute Mediation.

    Licensure or Certification Requirements
    • Must maintain the required hours of continuing mediation education pursuant to Local Rule 11.

    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
    • Ability to sit continuously at a computer for various periods of time.
    • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly in-person and on the telephone.
    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
