    The Junior Museum & Zoo is looking for a Guest Services Assistant
    (Arts & Sciences Technician - H)
    to help support its visitor experience.

    About the Junior Museum

    The Junior Museum is a place where children and their caregivers come to explore, discover, create, play, and get curious about science and nature. Animals at the Museum & Zoo provide children with age-appropriate examples of interesting adaptations, habitats, or wildlife conservation programs. Special installations bring children nose-to-nose with some animals, while other elements encourage imaginative play, support whole body movement, and stimulate multiple senses. There are over 70 species and 400 specimens housed at the Zoo. Educational experiences at the Junior Museum include year-round classes, camps and field trip opportunities.

    About the Position
    Under the supervision of the Guest Services Lead, the Guest Services Assistant (Arts & Sciences Technician - H) performs routine and repetitive computer inputting, and clerical tasks (including cash handling and answering the phone), and provides skilled customer service support for visitors. This position must enjoy working with the public and children, and must be available to work both weekday and weekend shifts. The Guest Services Assistant position is located at the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo.

    Preferred qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent;
    • Customer Service experience;
    • Cash Handling experience; and
    • Chinese language ability a plus!


    This is an SEIU Hourly (limited-benefits) position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.

    Essential Duties

    • Greeting guests;
    • Selling tickets and helping guests register for programs;
    • Scanning tickets and verifying memberships;
    • Providing and fielding information for customers about the Junior Museum and its visitor experience;
    • Professionally navigating customer feedback; and,
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    City Government

    Palo Alto is a full-service charter city with a council-manager form of government. The seven-member City Council is elected at large, and the City Council annually selects the Mayor and Vice Mayor from among its members.
