    Position Description

    Entry Salary: $46,355.40 Current Listing Is Open Until Filled Under general supervision, the Traffic Sign and Marking Technician I performs skilled work related to the application, construction, fabrication, installation, maintenance, renovation and repair of signs, pavement markings, flex posts, structures, maintenance of traffic devices and associated items within a Traffic Control System.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Applies, constructs, fabricates, installs, maintains, renovates and repairs signs, pavement markings, flex posts, structures, maintenance of traffic devices and associated items within a Traffic Control System.
    • Installs and maintains yellow and white thermoplastic pavement markings for the City of Clearwater; performs general layout and measurement of new pavement marking installations and eradication of old pavement markings via a manual grinder.
    • Sets and places all M.O.T's (Maintenance of Traffic) for the City of Clearwater; installs pavement markings on speed humps, decorative crosswalks, and flexible upright posts to delineate traffic.
    • Travels and drives to various areas of the City to perform general signage and marking for traffic systems.
    • Utilizes City resources, including but not limited to computers, motor vehicles, tools, equipment, and parts, to effectively perform assignments assuring the continued operation of the Traffic Control System.
    • Maintains records, equipment, tools and vehicles as needed.
    • Deploys, inspects, and collects traffic studies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment: A valid State driver's license is required. Certification from Florida Department of Transportation for Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire date. Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license within one (1) year of hire date. Certification from International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) for Signs & Pavement Markings Level I or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire date. Does this position require a Commercial Driver's License? Yes Type: Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A or B CDL based on area of assignment within one (1) year of hire. Education and Experience: High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, G.E.D. Certificate PLUS one (1) year experience in engineering, construction or related field, preferably including some experience in GIS, databases, spreadsheets or asset management.; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
