Scope of qualifications and requirements include ability to work independently under minimal supervision, knowledge of the geography of the community and the location of important buildings, ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to report and record them clearly and completely, ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations, good general intelligence and emotional stability, ability to tactfully interact with the public, especially children, minimum 18 years of age, physically able to perform the duties of a crossing guard during any weather conditions, ability to read English and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write reports and correspondence in English, and ability to speak effectively to children, parents, and school officials. Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard class. Tools and equipment needed include stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle with optional equipment such as cell phone, rain gear, reflective gloves, reflective cap, first aid equipment, proper warm safe winter gear, and traffic cones./p/div
