    Summary

    A Traffic Unit Deputy enforces motor vehicle laws, investigates traffic collisions, and improves roadway safety through proactive patrols, radar speed detection, and DUI enforcement.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Monitor traffic for violations, utilize radar/lidar speed detection devices, and conduct DUI detection and enforcement.
    • Respond to and investigate traffic accidents including fatal crashes.
    • Operate traffic enforcement equipment to include but not limited to radar and lidar.
    • Perform DUI detection and enforcement.
    • Prepare accurate, detailed incident and crash reports, citations, and affidavits for court testimony.
    • Implement selective traffic enforcement in target high-incident areas.
    Education, Training and Experience

    The Traffic Unit Deputy must be a P.O.S.T. certified Law Enforcement Officer with a minimum of one year law enforcement experience post mandate and must be a certified speed detection operator. Prior traffic enforcement or collision investigation experience and/or advanced traffic and DUI detection and enforcement training preferred. To be considered for employment at the Bibb County Sheriff's Office all applicants must agree to and successfully pass a background investigation, physical agility test, and polygraph. The applicant must be in possession of a valid Georgia Driver's license at the time of appointment, at least twenty-one (21) years of age and be a citizen of the United States.
    The following documents are required for consideration for the Traffic Unit Officer position (screenshots of documents are not acceptable and submission of these will cause your application will be rejected):
    • Resume showing complete work and educational history which must match and be in the same order as listed on the online work history.
    • Official High School transcripts and diploma. Official college transcripts and diploma, if applicable. All schools listed must have an attached official transcript or diploma if applicable.
    • If applicable, a Letter of Good Standing for active military service and a DD-214 showing the type of discharge for past military duty.
    • Copy of certifications pertinent to Law Enforcement.
    • If not a resident of Georgia for the last 7 years applicant must submit a 7-year motor vehicle report.
    • A minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation from previous supervisors. Letters must be typed, dated, signed and contain contact information. Letters of recommendation that are submitted must be listed on the reference page of the application. Personal and family references are not acceptable.

    • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, criminal and traffic laws, and department policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and court process and procedures.
    • Ability to operate radar/laser equipment, and mobile computers.
    • Ability to obtain additional enforcement and crash related training.
    • Ability to work independently and make sound decision.
    • Skill in obtaining and preserving evidence.
    • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
    • Good time management skills.
    • Good organizational skills.
    • Availability for varied shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
