    Traffic Technician II

    Teller County's Public Works Department is seeking a Traffic Technician II responsible for managing, providing for, and ensuring, that all traffic control devices installed on County roadways are in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to ensure safe and orderly movement of traffic throughout the County Road system.

    What You'll Do:

    • Perform skilled and semi-skilled duties involving the preparation, fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
    • Operate post drivers, post removers, and miscellaneous hand tools in accordance with established safety guidelines.
    • Determine proper installations of signage in accordance with the MUTCD.
    • Set up and remove barricades, cones, warning signs and any other traffic control devices as work requires. Ensure work zone traffic control is in accordance with the MUTCD.
    • Set up road counters and document results.
    • Respond to emergency calls regarding damaged or missing signage.
    • Maintain and update accurate records regarding traffic control inventory, routine maintenance, work performed, time and materials expended.
    • Solicit quotes from suppliers for traffic control materials.
    • Meet with utility locators to determine underground utility locations before sign installation(s).
    • Oversee contractors involving pavement markings on County roads.
    • Perform field studies and traffic engineering investigations in accordance with the MUTCD for setting proper and legal speed limits.
    • Assists other traffic control supervisors in the training of department personnel as to proper construction signing requirements in accordance with the MUTCD.
    • Operate heavy and light equipment as necessary.
    • Service and make minor repairs to assigned tools/equipment.

    What You'll Bring:

    • High school diploma or equivalent;
    • Three (3) years' work related experience;
    • Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory capacity;
    • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

    You Also Have:

    • Knowledge of: The appropriate State and Federal laws and regulations to include, but not limited to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); road construction, maintenance and repair operations; work site traffic control; Colorado's One Call utility locate process and procedures.
    • Skilled in: Supervision and oversight of contractors.
    • Ability to: Write, read and understand manuals, sketches, schematics, specifications and other work related directions; plan and estimate jobs within the scope of assigned duties and responsibilities; effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; work independently and produce quality work; establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers; perform all work and functions in a safe, conscientious manner; provide quality and consistency.

    Additional Details About the Role:

    • Visual acuity/hearing/speaking: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Physical effort/dexterity: Must be able to lift and carry eighty (80) pounds. Must be able to use a shovel and hand tools.
    • Environmental factors: Must be able to work under adverse conditions for extended periods of time. Such conditions may include dirt, noise, rain, snow, and extremes of temperature.
    • Work schedule/characteristics: Forty (40) hours per week and the ability to respond to emergency situations on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
    • License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License without restrictions; possession of certification as work site Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) in the State of Colorado; possession of a flagger certification in the State of Colorado within 180 days of hire.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    New salary range as of 1/1/2026: $31.54 - $ 33.11/ hour

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, hourly
