    Job Description

    Election judges play a vital role in administering fair and efficient elections. They handle all aspects of polling place operations, ensuring the voting process goes smoothly. Serving as an election judge is a great way to give back to the community, learn about election day processes, and protect one of our most cherished freedoms - the right to vote in free and fair elections.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Elections judges are responsible for:

    • Set up and close down the polling place, including voting equipment
    • Greet and assist voters
    • Register and sign in voters
    • Distribute and collect ballots
    • Operate election equipment
    • Help voters requiring assistance
    • Record and certify vote totals
    • Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Required qualifications:

    • Legally eligible to vote
    • Able to read, write and speak English
    • Complete required online and/or in-person training sessions
    • Declare your party affiliation (state law requires this to ensure no more than half of the election judges at a polling place are from any one party)
    • Ability to remain impartial and avoid political or controversial topics
    • Ability to understand and follow election laws and procedures

    The following are NOT eligible:

    • A spouse, parent, child or sibling of another election judge serving at the same precinct in that election.
    • A candidate on the ballot
    • A spouse, parent, child or sibling of a candidate on the ballot; or a person domiciled with a candidate on the ballot

    Desired qualifications:

    • Ability to communicate clearly with voters
    • Enjoy assisting and serving all Minnetonka residents
    • Attention to detail and ability to understand and follow direction
    • Ability to learn and navigate new electronic programs quickly and efficiently
    • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations

    Additional Information
    • Minnetonka election judges are paid for Election Day and training.
    • Election Day pay rates:
      1. Election Judges - $15.00/hour
      2. You will be paid at a flat rate of $20 or $40 for each required training that you complete.
      3. State law allows for time off from work without loss of wages to serve as an election judge with 20 days prior written notice to your employer.
