Pay Schedule XIII, Grade 6S, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week. The Sheriff's Office will award a Hiring Bonus of $6000 for Entry Level Deputy Sheriffs. The bonus will be paid in three (3) equal payments at the time of hire; after training; and after completion of probationary status.

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial Class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Age Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment. Character Applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and drug test. Citizenship Applicants must be citizens of the United States at the time of appointment. Physical Requirements Employees must be able to perform the duties of the position without posing a threat to the health and safety of others, as determined by a test of physical ability. In addition, after accepting an appointment to a position within this classification, all candidates are required to pass a physical examination. Passers of the written examination must successfully complete a test of physical ability. This test, which will be scheduled at a later date by the Sheriff's Office, consists of the following activities: -1 1/2 mile run -sit-ups -push-ups -fire-arms familiarization.

Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation. Applicants meeting the required qualifications according to information submitted on their application and supplemental questions will be scheduled for written testing.

Employees are subject to call to duty or overtime in emergencies with little or no notice.
