Job Characteristics ***OPEN & PROMOTIONAL JOB OPPORTUNITY*** Community Reuse Area Planner The City of Concord is currently seeking one Community Reuse Area Planner to lead the coordination and implementation of complex, long-range planning processes for the development of the Concord Naval Weapons Station Reuse Project .
The Community Development Department The City of Concord’s Community Development Department, or CDD, is home to the Planning, Building, Engineering, and Housing and Community Services divisions, which work together to maintain and improve the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.
The Planning Division implements and administers the policy direction of the City Council and addresses community needs regarding the City’s built environment, including its development and growth. The Planning Division provides information on property regulations, evaluates development projects, develops and administers land use policies and long-range plans, including the City's General Plan, and assists with the Concord Naval Weapons Station Reuse Project.
What you will be doing:The Community Reuse Area Planner will be primarily be responsible for project management and coordination related to the specific planning, entitlements and development of the Community Reuse Project for the Concord Naval Weapons Station. This will include preparation of a Specific Plan and environmental review documents, and, if needed, amendments to the General Plan, Zoning Map and Development Code. This position will serve as a primary liaison between the City and the Master Developer on a project that will impact Concord for decades to come. This position may also take on additional planning projects as needed.
We are looking for someone who: - Has significant experience in leading complex, long-range planning processes and state law requirements
- Will manage City staff and consultant teams in the preparation of specific plans, master plans, general plans, land use entitlements and permitting processes

- Possesses an exception ability to communicate openly and effectively with a wide variety of audiences and exudes political acumen
- Explains complex planning principles in easy-to-understand terms

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience Education: Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in City Planning or closely related field is required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience involving program management and supervision of staff. Extensive advanced planning experience is highly desirable.
OtherA California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
