    Water Department - Water Dist. - Pipeline Division
    Location: 2409 E 18th St
    Salary Range: $27.80-$41.70 per hour

    Schedule: Friday-Monday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll do
    • Provides field supervision for several Pipeline and Water Service crews engaged in maintenance and limited construction.
    • Locates mains, valves, and curb boxes, as well as checks hydrants, valves, services, and mains for leaks.
    • Receives requests for emergency and other unscheduled work and arranges for work completion.
    • Instructs employees and crews in usual and new methods of work and equipment usage.
    • Submits required reports and works with employees to resolve any complaints or grievances.
    • Completes employees' annual service ratings and coaches employees on a quarterly basis to ensure performance goals are met.
    • Ensures that all crew members are following safety guidelines, i.e., confined spaces, excavation safety, and traffic control safety.

    • Emergency and unscheduled work is handled quickly with minimal service disruptions

    • Experience leading crews or teams in utility, construction, or field operations
    • Strong understanding of safety practices, especially confined space, excavation, and traffic control safety
    • Ability to coordinate emergency and routine work while keeping crews organized and productive
    • Clear communication skills for coaching, reporting, and resolving employee concerns
    • Ability to manage performance, provide feedback, and support employee development



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES:
    • High school graduation and 5 years in Water or Sewer Construction and maintenance work.
    • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
    • Must possess a valid CDL issued by the state of MO prior to the end of the employees probationary period as determined by the department.
    • May be required to possess at least one of the certifications listed below that is applicable to the employee's work area within 6 months of moving into this job classification:
      • Distribution System Level II (DS-II) License with the State of Missouri;
      • Wastewater Collections system level B certification with the State of Missouri;
      • Backflow Certification;
      • Meter Repair or Testing Certification;
      • or National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP).
    • Preference given to applicants who possess the Distribution System Level II and/or Distribution System Level III license with the state of Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
