    Firefighter Position

    Duties

    • Perform structural firefighting duties at a large industrial facility, station, or installation where the structures, equipment, and operations present complex and hazardous firefighting situations.
    • Work as a member of a crew whose primary purpose is to control and extinguish fires, rescue individuals endangered by fire, reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards, perform confined space, above and below grade and high angle rescue.
    • Respond as a member of a Hazardous Materials response team for the purpose of containment, control and mitigation of spill or release and provide emergency medical services.
    • Control and extinguish fires by operating a hose, ladder, hydrant and/or rescuing endangered people.
    • Operate pumps, foam generators, boom nozzles, and other related equipment.
    • Perform as an Emergency Medical technician, respond to medical emergencies, analyze the situation, initiating a variety of emergency medical procedures or pre-established protocols.
    • Administer emergency medical care performing Basic Life Support tasks.
    • Communicate with medical facilities providing information regarding victim's conditions, vital signs, temperature, etc.
    • Assist in the operation of firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks.

    Requirements Conditions of employment

    • Must be a US Citizen.
    • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
    • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

    • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

    • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
    • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
    • You are required to move, lift, and load people weighing in excess of 180 pounds.

    Qualifications GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Proficient in operating both basic and specialized firefighting tools, such as ladders, rescue tools, and nozzles; understanding fire control principles and firefighting strategies, including handling hazardous environments; respond to hazardous material releases, ensuring protection of people, property, and the environment; applying procedures for maintaining and inspecting firefighting vehicles and equipment; and utilizing effective search and rescue techniques. The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position. Individuals must be certified at these levels before being eligible to fill the grade and/or position.

    • Firefighter I and II
    • Hazmat Awareness
    • Hazmat Operations

    GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position. Individuals must be certified at these levels before being eligible to fill the grade and/or position.
