Job Responsibilities Under regular supervision, responds to fire emergencies, rescues, hazardous material and medical calls occurring on a military installation. Perform 24-hour standby for fire suppression and rescue operations under conditions that can be extremely stressful and dangerous. Operate fire apparatus and other related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, tools, protective clothing and other assigned equipment. Participate in training and evaluation exercises as required. Provide medical assistance at the first responder or higher (EMR) levels. In the absence of a Senior Fire Officer assumes command of the emergency scene until relieved. Performs other duties as assigned by higher fire authorities.
Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma, and Firefighter II (IFSAC/ProBoard) training certification. Must have a valid South Carolina state driver's license and be able to obtain a federal government driver's license if required. Applicants must meet NFPA-1582 physical standards with ability to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Additional Comments Applicants must have a valid South Carolina state driver's license or obtain within 90 days of employment if in possession of an out-of-state license. The position requirement calls for certification at the Firefighter II skill level from a federal or equivalent state fire training school. Must have a basic knowledge of fire apparatus operations and driving skills and meet the standards set forth in NFPA 1002 (Fire Apparatus Drive/Operator Qualifications) within six (6) months of employment. Possess basic working knowledge of Hazardous Materials Operations and First-Aid techniques. Broad working knowledge of structural firefighting and rescue techniques. Have a working knowledge of Fire Prevention procedures and practices. Have the ability to perform assigned duties and able to lift 100 lbs. six (6) feet high. Continued employment will be contingent on selected individual passing a Firefighter Physical based on NFPA 1500 (Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program) standards, Drug Testing, and Background Check. McCrady Fire Department provides 24/7 emergency services and will consist of three shifts, each working 24-hrs on/off with an average workweek of 53-hrs and 106-hrs per scheduled pay period. Candidates must be able to work with people of different genders, race, and ethnicity.
