    Summary

    Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Spotters are responsible for maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow in the unloading area, inspecting waste received at the MRF for hazardous and unauthorized waste, sorting of waste by type, and ensuring that drivers and pedestrians are kept at a safe distance from all heavy equipment and industrial operations.

    Job Description
    • Actively inspect loads for unauthorized material at the unloading area.
    • Enforce MRF safety requirements and procedures.
    • Spot trucks unloading in the tipping area and maintain traffic control in the area.
    • Direct traffic safely in and out of the unloading area and controls the unloading of vehicles.
    • Inspect and remove hazardous waste from all loads tipped at the MRF. This includes other unauthorized wastes such as used tires, treated wood and other unauthorized material.
    • Communicate effectively with all team members, including: scale house operators, heavy equipment operators, MRF Foremen and Supervisors
    • Coordinate the stoppage of various activities within the unloading area in order to pull hazardous waste materials from the waste streams.
    • Immediately report all emergencies (e.g. fires, accidents) to the proper manager/supervisor.
    • Provide fuels and related additives to all heavy equipment operating in the MRF as required.
    • Prepare daily log sheets to report tonnages from various equipment/vehicles/transfer trailers for correct reporting, billing and invoicing.
    • Perform daily litter control on the MRF and maintains the entry road into the MRF.
    • Keep the MRF tipping areas clean and well-maintained.
    • Operate equipment in support of the inspection and sorting process, including but not limited to skid steer, backhoe, forklift and loaders.
    • Sorting cardboard and curbside recyclables and baling sorted materials using baling equipment.
    • Sort and properly load waste tires for shipping.
    • Separate metals by type for salvage.
    • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Communicate with and take direction from a supervisor.
    • Attend classes and meetings for training certification, such as hazardous waste spotter and continuing education credits, meeting safety requirements.
    • Train in HAZWOPER and respond to and contain spills. Safely clean up the area around an accidental effluent spill.
    • Complies with information provided on Material Safety Data Sheets for all products. Handles and stores items properly.
    • Observes and adheres to proper tag out and lockout of vehicles in accordance with clearance procedures, policies, and practices.
    • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
    • Required to work overtime, weekends and during emergency conditions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Required Qualifications:
    • 1-year experience working as a general laborer and/or construction environment.
    • High School Diploma / GED
    • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to construction operations.
    • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.
    • Ability to understand and communicate in writing and verbally and follow instructions.
    • Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
    • Ability to work overtime as needed.
    • Valid C Class Driver License.
    • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bilingual English / Spanish

      • Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
      • Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously.

      • Bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 50 Lbs. frequently.
    • Environmental:
      • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, & noise continuously.
      • Works outside only.
    Schedule: Monday - Saturday from 4:30 am - 1:00 pm

    Salary: $20.60 per hour
