    About This Job

    The mission of the Secretary of State's office is to serve the public by meeting its legal responsibilities of collecting, securing and communicating information that enhances commerce, ensures the integrity of Louisiana's elections and preserves, presents and makes accessible government information essential to Louisiana's operations and its recorded history. The Secretary of State's Archives Division is seeking a passionate and skilled Archives Specialist A, B, or C to join our Conservation Services Section. In this role, you will hold history in your hands, working directly with vital state records spanning over two centuries. If you are ready to protect and preserve Louisiana's rich cultural and governmental heritage for future generations, we want to hear from you.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    • Research topics and identify resource needs through libraries and purchases
    • Generate and execute loan agreements from start to finish dates
    • Maintain timely communication and professional relationships with lenders and stakeholders
    • Develop in-house programming related to the exhibition theme
    • Write press releases for the Executive Communications team
    • Grant interviews to the media as directed by the Executive Communications team
    • Arrange special programming events by securing speakers
    • Work with the Gala coordinator to help plan the event
    • Attend as many exhibit-related events as possible, including evening hours
    • Physical construction of exhibition mounts and supports
