    Job Summary

    The Judicial Security Officer is responsible for performing security functions for the Judicial Branch facilities and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for screening individuals entering the judicial branch facility for any contraband, narcotics, and/or weapons. The Judicial Security Officer performs duties, which include, responding to alarms, emergency and non-emergency calls, patrolling assigned areas, providing security for the courtroom and preparing reports.
    Principle Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Perform customer service assistance such as locating and/or directing people at the Judicial Branch Facility to the appropriate office or courtroom.
    2. Provide security presence and escort services as needed for court proceedings.
    3. Perform security screening for all individuals entering the Judicial Branch Facility.
    4. Provide security assistance by escorting disruptive individuals out of the courtroom and Judicial Branch Facility lobby.
    5. Ensure that the Judicial Branch's courtrooms are secure and alarms are set; unlock and deactivate alarms during business hours.
    6. Provide security for after hours and weekend emergency courtroom proceedings.
    7. Monitor the building, parking lots and assist community members by maintaining a safe environment.
    8. Write and review daily activity reports, incident reports and verify information.
    9. Assess emergency situations and takes appropriate actions to protect individuals within Judicial Branch Facility.
    10. Operate communication equipment.
    11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of:
    • Security practices and principles;
    • Court room procedures;
    • Customer service principles;
    • Report writing;
    • Some legal terminology associated with judicial proceedings;
    • Applicable federal, state, local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes and/or statutes;
    • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
    Skills and Abilities:
    • Provide customer service;
    • Prepare activity reports;
    • Provide security and escorts as required;
    • Ability to analyze and reacts to emergency situations;
    • Handle encounters with irate or hostile individuals;
    • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

    Education, Certifications and Experience Required

    Required:High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience: or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
    AND
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred;
    • Courtroom or Security experience is preferred.
    Preferred:High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience: or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
    AND
    • Possess a valid State of Arizona Process Server Certification;
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred;
    • Courtroom or Security experience is preferred.

    Special Requirements:
    • Must not have any felony convictions deemed a felony by the State of Arizona or the United States Government;
    • Handheld/walk-through metal detectors and X-ray Machine Training or must be able to obtain training within six (6) months of hire;
    • Must obtain immunizations and medical tests as required to be able to work in high risk areas;
    • CPR/First Aid Certification or must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire;
    • Tactics for Officer Safety and Survival Training (T.O.S.S.) or must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire;
    • O.C. Spray and Taser Gun Certifications or must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire;
    • Breathe and Alcohol certification or must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire;
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
    • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
