This position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight related to all areas and levels of fire and rescue training provided through the constituent colleges of the NC Community College System in compliance with standards of the NC Fire and Rescue Commission and/or other applicable bodies, and within state and local policies of the NC Community College System. Key duties include planning, monitoring, and evaluating training needs and training delivery specific to this program area; maintaining and providing expertise and technical assistance in the program area; building collaborations with applicable state agencies, regulatory bodies, local colleges, local fire and rescue agencies, and qualified fire and rescue instructors for the purpose of maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of the NCCCS as the primary provider of fire and rescue training in North Carolina; and communicating information to stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner to support superior fire and rescue training in the state. This position reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Academic Officer through the Associate Vice President of Workforce Strategies and the Director of Public Safety Training Programs.
This position works as part of a larger Public Safety Training Team that provides statewide leadership to North Carolina's community colleges for the following Curriculum and Workforce Continuing Education programs: Fire & Rescue/Fire Protection, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement/Corrections, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management/Emergency Preparedness, Code Enforcement, and other areas as assigned.
This position serves as the Community College System Office's primary contact and subject matter expert for Fire/Rescue and Emergency Management education and training programs. In addition, this position provides targeted and strategic assistance to the state's 58 community colleges in areas of program accountability and compliance; NC Community College System (NCCCS) policies and procedures, including General Statutes and State Board of Community Colleges Code; and workforce/industry standards related to the assigned public-safety discipline(s).
Specific duties include managing the state-level Community College System Combined Course Library in the assigned discipline(s); reviewing and processing applications for new or revised courses and programs; assisting with policy development and training related to North Carolina Community College System policies and procedures; providing written and verbal assistance to colleges, state agencies, and other stakeholders; acting as System Office liaison to related state-level boards, committees, and/or agencies; and being a collaborative partner and productive member of assigned work teams. Duties are accomplished through the following means:
This position is expected to work proactively with internal teams and external partners to support program improvement and student success in the assigned area(s).
This position supports local community college staff in providing education and training that complies with applicable educational and industry standards and promotes student success; however, this position does not directly manage or deliver the education or training courses.
This position communicates with and supports a variety of college personnel, depending on needs and requests from colleges. Considerable statewide travel, including overnight travel, and frequent meetings in Raleigh, will be required.
