    Security Representative

    KEY REQUIREMENTS

    High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Additional education beyond a high school diploma may substitute for the below experience.

    Experience in one or more: (1) Security screening and secure facilities such as airports and courthouses; (2) Law enforcement, corrections or government security; (3) Military; (4) Hold Florida "D" & "G" Licenses; (5) Customer Service and/or Communications.

    Must obtain Security Officer License – Class "D" within 90 days of employment and

    Must obtain Florida Statewide Firearm License – Class "G" within 180 days of employment.

    Administrative Office of the Court will pay for the required licenses if obtained within the 20th Judicial Circuit

    May be required to drive within the circuit

    Summary

    The Security Representative screens people entering the Justice Center Complex and/or Cape Coral Government Complex for weapons, explosives, and other prohibited items to prevent them from being carried into the building. The Security Representative also acts as a Security Guard and performs other duties as assigned. A Security Representative's primary responsibilities include the following: (1) Screen persons entering the Justice Center Complex and the Cape Coral Government Center for restricted items; (2) X-ray purses, briefcases, parcels, and packages etc. which are brought into the building; (3) Perform the duties of security guard (4) Provide court and other information to the public; (5) Other duties as assigned.

    Examples of Duties

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

    (1) Screen persons entering the Justice Center Complex and the Cape Coral Government Center for restricted items • Stop all people who are entering prior to going through the metal detector and direct them to place all parcels or purses, briefcases, etc. on the x-ray machine. • Direct all individuals to empty their pockets into the bowl or tray provided. • Examine and/or x-ray the contents of the bowl/tray for restricted items. • Notify Law Enforcement Officer if restricted articles are discovered or detector equipment indicates further search is needed.

    (2) X-ray purses, briefcases, parcels, and packages etc. which are brought into the building: • Use all of the x-ray system enhancement features to examine purses, briefcases, parcels, and packages etc. for restricted and/or dangerous items. • Notify a supervisor and/or a law enforcement officer if suspected illegal items are found.

    (3) Perform the duties of a security guard: • Check ID cards at the employee entrance of the Justice Center Complex; restrict access to only those employees with a valid ID card. • Patrol on foot around the Justice Center Complex, Lee County Government Annex East, Justice Center Annex, and the Cape Coral Government Complex, report any unsafe conditions or suspicious activities. • Monitor security cameras. • Restrict access to the Justice Center Complex and act as a security guard at the Justice Center Complex 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during all non-business hours. • Write concise incident reports utilizing proper punctuation and grammar • Maintain a neat uniform

    (4) Provide court and other information to the public: • Review court information/schedules every morning • Keep abreast of office location changes • Refer unfamiliar questions to a supervisor or the appropriate office

    (5) Other duties as assigned

    Ability to: • Provide effective, accurate, professional, polite, friendly, and prompt customer service to the public and other agency personnel, AOC employees, and the Judiciary; • Relate professionally with individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds; • Identify and prevent weapons, explosives, and forbidden articles from being brought into the building; • Control and assist employees and the public in various situations including emergencies; • Write concise incident reports utilizing proper punctuation and grammar. • Calm irate individuals; • Provide excellent customer service; • Monitor facilities on foot and with security cameras and equipment; • Walk foot patrols; • Drive an automobile; • Obtain and maintain Florida Class D and G licenses; • Maintain consistent and regular attendance, which is required; • Work rotating shifts, 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts, holidays, weekends, and to cover other shifts and assignments as needed; • Efficiently utilize computer applications, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word and Outlook.
