    Mid Council Connections Lead

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation ("A Corp") "PC(USA)", based in Louisville Kentucky, serve with mid-councils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ.Approximately 400 individuals, diverse in race, age, gender, sexual orientation, faith, skills, and more, come together as colleagues to work for a world where justice reigns, peace prevails, and God's love extends to all people. This community comprises the staff of national entities: the Interim Unified Agency, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women, Investment and Loan Program, and the Administrative Services Group.

Basic Commitment: This position calls for a commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as noted in its theological confessions, the Book of Order, and the actions of the General Assembly.

    Position Summary

The Mid Council Connections Lead serves as a vital connector between Presbyterian Life & Witness and the mid councils of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This role requires a trusted presence who can build relationships, communicate effectively across the church, and help mid council leaders thrive in their ministry. This person will contribute to a healthy, cohesive staff team culture — bringing the same relational intentionality inward that they bring to the broader church.

We are looking for someone who embodies PL&W's institutional values: a learner who stays curious and grows from every encounter; nimble enough to adapt as the church navigates change; and courageous in naming hard truths.

    Roles and Responsibilities

The following represent the essential responsibilities of this position, listed in order of importance:

    1. Build relationships and trust across mid councils and PL&W agencies — fostering connection, collaboration, and mutual accountability throughout the church with a focus on consistent communication with mid council partners.
    2. Gather and share resources and best practices for mid council leaders and serve as a primary communication link between the PL&W and mid councils.
    3. Plan and lead gatherings and training events in coordination with colleagues in Thriving Mid Councils — including the Mid Council Leaders Gathering, Mid Council Leader Orientation, and Moderators' Conference.
    4. Identify and communicate trends — discerning emerging issues, concerns, and opportunities within mid councils and conveying them to PL&W leadership, mid council leaders, and the broader church.
    5. Oversee key administrative and compliance processes, including the review of Synod minutes, approval of national certifying bodies, reporting of sexual misconduct allegations and charges as directed by the GA, and maintaining the boundaries database and map in collaboration with IT staff.
    6. Coordinate mid council connections within the PL&W and with mid council partners — approximately 30% of this role is dedicated to facilitating relationships, communication, and collaboration within the PLW ecosystem and among mid council partner organizations.
    7. Provide parliamentary expertise, serving as parliamentarian upon request and offering training on parliamentary procedure as needed.
    8. Support GA committees, commissions, and task forces as assigned by the Stated Clerk.
    9. Travel to meetings, conferences, and the General Assembly as required.

    Required Qualifications

    • Graduate-level degree required (Master of Divinity, Theology, or other relevant field).
    • Active Teaching Elder or Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), in good standing with a presbytery or congregation
    • 5+ years of work in mid-councils or significant experience in mid council ministries.
    • Established credibility and trust among mid council staff and leaders
    • Deep knowledge of PC(USA) polity, structure, and governance
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and intercultural competence
    • Experience with parliamentary procedure and Robert's Rules of Order
    • Ability to manage interpersonal relationships with skill and care
    • Proficiency with current technology and digital tools
    • Cheerful persistence and genuine optimism about the future of the church

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Multilingual — fluency in Spanish, Korean, or any additional language beyond English
    • Certified parliamentarian

    Required Competencies:

    • Champion the aspirational purpose, values, ministry priorities, and work plan of the Interim Unified Agency (IUA) in your contribution, teamwork, attitude, ethics, behaviors, and all work relationships with people inside and outside the IUA.
    • Enact a bias toward taking responsibility.
    • Able to work without direction
    • Can work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
    • Current, clear license to operate a vehicle
    • Deep understanding of and commitment to cultural and racial ethnic inclusiveness. Values diverse groups, ethnicities, gender-expressions, communities, cultural constituencies and points of view.
