    Lead Security Assistant, Visitor Control Center

    Program Summary:

    Job Summary: This position provides administrative and customer service support to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC. This is a busy and fast-paced environment, where the work is constant, with minimum downtime. Punctuality is critical. The highest volume of activity occurs when the VCC opens, and on‑time arrival is essential to mission success. Work schedules may vary. Employees may be assigned early or later start times accordingly and may be asked to adjust their schedule temporarily to support coverage during employee absences.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Serves as security assistant in NRL Visitor Control Center, which also functions as the NRL pass and ID Office.

    • Greets and signs-in visitors to NRL and process visit requests.

    • Determines the purpose of visit and assures positive ID before allowing visitor entry onto the Laboratory.

    • Process foreign national visitors by verifying identification/immigrant alien status.

    • Process unclassified/classified meetings, verifies clearances for employees, contractors and visitors, processes badges for employees/contractors, issues car passes, after citing necessary state registration.

    • Collects fingerprints as required for individual clearance processing.

    • Processes VIP requests, databases visit requests for contractor.

    • Files, classifies and retrieves material in an established filing system.

    • Files and updates databases and checks the status of Personnel Security and investigative actions.

    • Assists with a variety of administrative matters as directed.

    • Must be familiar with use of computer as it relates to updating various Visitor Control related information.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience.

    • U.S. Citizen. Must have an active Secret clearance in order to be considered .

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous experience with the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), Real-time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS), Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), and LiveScan Fingerprinting Systems is highly desired.

    This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) position.

    01312 - Secretary

    Compensation: $65,780.00 - $98,555.00. The salary range posted is for Washington, DC locations. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.
