    Job Description

    The Court Navigator will focus on providing court navigation services via a Peer Support/Community Health Worker model to ensure people who are justice-involved have support from someone who has been directly impacted themselves. The Navigator will help clients access a range of support services that might be beneficial and result in higher appearance rates, including court notifications, transportation, and child-care coordination necessary to support court appearance.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • Serve as first point of contact for courthouse visitors, establishing routine presence within the main lobby of the Buncombe County courthouse lobby.
    • Provide immediate and direct assistance/customer service for courthouse visitors.
    • Provide location of courtroom(s), offices, departments, etc. within the courthouse.
    • Provide specific routes and/or steps to reach desired courthouse locations efficiently.
    • Accompany individuals to desired locations (as needed).
    • Seek to understand courthouse visitor request(s), responding clearly, professionally, and respectfully on a consistent basis.
    • Based on needs and/or request(s), provide formal connection/introduction to the Buncombe County Justice Resource Center and/or other community resources that will support their needs and successive court appearance(s).
    • Proactively assist courthouse visitors to register for an automated court reminder system.
    • Collaborate with the Buncombe County Justice Resource Center, Law Enforcement, and/or other justice system partners to address immediate needs related to their overall health and safety.
    • Coordinate with justice resource partners to create a pipeline of referrals from offices within the criminal justice system as well as from community health and human services providers.
    • Submit performance measures to Buncombe County on a quarterly basis
    Education

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Essential Skills & Abilities
    • Experience working with the court system, preferred.
    • A high level of integrity and attention to confidentiality is a must.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, required.
    • Strong Microsoft Word, Outlook skills required
    • Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint strongly preferred.
    • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English, a plus.
