    Overview

    The Background Investigator is responsible for recruiting and conducting thorough background investigations for applicants seeking sworn and civilian employment within the Police Department, as well as contractors requiring authorized access to police facilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct fair, timely, and comprehensive background investigations for all assigned applicants

    • Interviewing applicants regarding information developed during the investigation, ensuring completion of the Preliminary Interview Packet

    • Responding to background inquiries from outside agencies, and providing regular status updates to the Administration Bureau, including recommendations for potential rejection or disqualification

    • Respond to communications from individuals seeking employment with the department

    • Coordinate and support the deployment of recruiters, and assist with securing facilities and conducting applicant physical fitness testing in collaboration with the Human Resources Department

    • Ensure all applicants meet the minimum requirements for Peace Officer or Telecommunicator licensing and for employment with the Police Department

    • Schedule and oversee the administration of the polygraph exam for each applicant

    • Schedule applicants for interviews, physical exams, psychological interviews, and drug screening

    • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non Exempt - Part Time - Temporary

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Qualifications

    • Associates Degree (AA/AS); or 2-year technical certificate

    • Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    • TCIC/NCIC within six (6) months of hire

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

    Employment Testing

    Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

    • Criminal Background Check: Yes

    • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes

    • Drug Screening: Yes

    • Physical Exam: Yes

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
