As an Environmental Services Supervisor, you will be part of the EHSD Internal Operations Division which provides the essential infrastructure and support that keep our programs running smoothly. This is a newly established position within EHSD, offering a rare opportunity to shape, design, and lead a new program from the ground up. Your work will directly support the EHSD Community Services Bureau (CSB), which provides high-quality early childhood education and supportive services to families throughout Contra Costa County. CSB oversees Head Start, Early Head Start, and state-funded childcare programs across multiple sites. These centers play a critical role in preparing children for lifelong learning, and maintaining clean, healthy, and safe environments is essential to that mission. As part of the CSB team, you will help ensure that our childcare facilities remain welcoming, hygienic, and fully prepared for the next day’s learning and play. You will join a department dedicated to equity, exceptional service, collaboration, and uplifting communities. You will also play a key role in supporting CSB’s operational excellence as we expand and strengthen our facilities to meet the needs of children and families across Contra Costa County.

What you will typically be responsible for: - Overseeing after-hours cleaning and sanitation at CSB childcare centers, ensuring classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and play areas meet childcare cleanliness standards
- Building and supervising an evening custodial team using County staff, including hiring, scheduling, coaching, and performance evaluation
- Training staff on safe, proper, and efficient cleaning practices, including correct use of cleaning solutions and equipment
- Adjusting daily work plans to address special cleaning needs, emergencies, or unexpected schedule changes
- Inspecting facilities for cleanliness, safety hazards, and compliance with childcare, public health, and CSB standards
- Ensuring proper use and basic upkeep of custodial equipment
- Maintaining communication with childcare center and EHSD leadership to coordinate needs, resolve issues, and ensure high-quality service
- Supporting CSB’s mission by ensuring that all children’s spaces remain clean, healthy, and conducive to learning

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience (or its equivalent), of which one (1) year must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity, in performing institutional housekeeping duties. Institutional experience may have been obtained from one of the following: military installation, hospital, detention facility, juvenile hall, elementary or high school, community and/or state college or university or a similar institution.
Desirable Qualifications:- Experience supervising custodial or housekeeping staff in childcare, school, medical, or institutional settings
- Familiarity with childcare sanitation and health-and-safety standards
- Experience training staff on cleaning protocols and safety practices
- Experience overseeing multiple facilities or satellite sites
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience supporting a program serving children or families
- Ability to work effectively during evening or night shifts
