We are currently seeking an Instructor Public Safety Telecommunicator, who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.
Provide the learning activities and support that willlead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. The faculty member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service. Primaryresponsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning as it relates to preparing students for employment and licensure in the 911 Public Safety profession.
The incumbent will teach a maximum load of continuing education units each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division and college.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Education
High School Diploma/GED required.
Minimum License Requirements
Must provide certification of successful completion of or complete within one year of employment a telecommunication-training program in compliance with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) guidelines.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.
Copy of transcript conferring required degree and certifications must accompany application
Experience
5 years relevant work experience in 9-1-1 Public Safety Communications required.
Knowledge of 9-1-1 Public Safety Communications Operations subject matter, including Call-Taking, Police, Fire and EMS Dispatching, use of CAD/Dispatch operating programs and systems; standards, rules and regulations pertaining to Public Safety Communications.
3 years experience in positions of training and leadership in Public Safety Communications (i.e., Communications Training Officer, Instructor, Lead Dispatcher or Supervisor) preferred.
Prior teaching experience in an academic or professional setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city.
2. Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
4. Possess good organizational and planning skills.
5. Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
6. Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
7. Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
