    Police Officer

    The City of Green Bay Police Department is accepting applications for Police Officer. Lateral transfers are encouraged to apply and will be given priority review with potential for an accelerated recruitment and onboarding process. Pay Range: $34.28-$48.34 per hour. (Candidates without prior law enforcement experience will be hired at the starting rate, while lateral candidates may be placed within the pay range based on relevant experience.)     Examples of Duties

    1) Patrols assigned zone performing building checks, watching for suspicious situations, enforcing violations and acting as deterrent to criminal/unlawful activity. Watches for specific areas of concern. 2) Observes traffic and enforces violations. 3) Performs investigations of crimes and accidents including burglary, theft, vandalism, traffic accidents, etc. and takes appropriate action. 4) Prepares all necessary reports related to patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, disturbances, etc. 5) Responds to public and domestic complaints taking appropriate action including acting as mediator, subduing/apprehending suspect, issuing citations, etc. 6) Answers phones. Responds to walk-in complaints. 7) Attends roll call. 8) Makes public presentations. 9) Issues subpoenas, citations, and warrants. 10) Gives testimony in court. 11) Seizes and submits evidence. 12) Assists Fire Department personnel on squad calls. Assists other agencies as needed. Patrols special events as assigned. 13) Trains Patrol Officers as required. 14) Participates in mandatory training. 15) Carries, qualifies and maintains a firearm. 16) Performs related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications Required

    1) Minimum of an Associate Degree or 60 college credits from an accredited college or university by June 30, 2026. ( Candidates who have not graduated from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Academy are required to possess a minimum of 40 credits from an accredited university, college, or technical school. The 60 credit requirement may be reduced or waived if the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board grants an official waiver in accordance with their established policies and procedures.) 2) 18 years of age or older. 3) U.S. citizen with no felony convictions. 4) Valid driver's license and excellent driving record. A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered. Must have acceptable personal and professional history as determined by successfully completing a background investigation. Candidates must meet the education requirement by June 30, 2026. All other criteria must be met at the time of application in order to be considered.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Good knowledge of the principles, methods, priorities, and techniques of police work. Good knowledge of departmental rules and regulations. Good knowledge of controlling laws and ordinances including federal, state, and local. Good knowledge of the streets and locations within the City. Knowledge of the methods of interrogation, presenting evidence and what constitutes admissible evidence. Considerable skill in the use and care of firearms and in the operation of motor vehicles. Working skill in the application of modern principles and practices utilized in general police work. Working skill in reacting quickly and calmly in emergencies. Working skill in expressing oneself clearly and concisely. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the general public. Ability to work the required hours of the position. May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing approved tests.
