    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
    • Requires high school graduation or equivalent.
    • Successful completion of Washington State Police Basic Law Enforcement Academy AND eighteen (18) months of full-time paid service as a commissioned police officer employed by the City of Everett, OR
    • A minimum of twenty-four (24) months of full-time paid service as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction with extensive patrol experience, without a break in service of more than thirty-six (36) months by the application date AND either the successful completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) prior to application date, or the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Justice Training Commission Equivalency Examination within one (1) year after employment. Out-of-state applicants must possess the necessary training and experience to become certified in accordance with Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission standards.
    • Valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
    • Must be 21 years of age by application closing date.
    • Must meet department standards of physical condition.
    • U.S. Citizenship, a lawful permanent resident, or deferred action for childhood arrivals recipients (DACA).

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS

    Submission to an extensive background investigation which may include but is not limited to: FBI record check, financial records, previous employers, friends, relatives, neighbors (past and present), polygraph (lie detector), psychological and medical evaluations, drug testing and fingerprinting.

    EXAMINATION PROCESS
    • Those meeting the requirements for the position will be examined by administration of an independently rated questionnaire, weighted 20%. Applicants with a passing grade on the questionnaire will be called to an oral panel evaluation, weighted 80%.
    • All portions of the process are designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Additional screening prior to appointment to these positions includes an employment and general background investigation as well as medical, drug testing, psychological, and polygraph examinations.
    • THOSE APPLICANTS CLAIMING VETERANS' PREFERENCE MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THEIR DD214 FORM WITH THE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION.     About the position: This is a Civil Service class involving general police activities associated with the protection of life and property by enforcement of state and municipal codes, regulations and ordinances. The Civil Service eligibility register for this postion is subject to continuous modification as a result of the open/continuous nature of the process. Grades earned as a result of this screen process are valid for 12 months after certification by the Civil Service Commission. Employment in this class requires compliance with all associated fitness standards and requirements as well as a satisfactory background check, FBI record check, polygraph (lie detector) exam, and psychological evaluation. Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid LEOFF medical evaluation and medical history review that may include back x-rays and will include drug screening. This job classification is represented by Everett Police Officers Association.

    The City of Everett provides a consisting of the following:
    • Kaiser Permanente CORE HMO or HMA self-insured Medical Plan
    • Delta Dental Service Plan
    • HMA self-insured Vision Plan

    Benefit eligibility for the employee and eligible dependents begins the first day of the month following the employee's hire date. Premiums for HMA Medical and Kaiser Medical coverage are shared by the employee. Premiums for Delta Dental and HMA Vision are paid by the City on behalf of the employee and eligible dependents.

    The Police Association offers Voluntary Life Insurance for employee, spouse and children through Aflac. Please contact Molly Spellman for more information on coverage and premiums for this insurance plan. The employee pays the premiums on this benefit.

    LEOFF II employees are responsible for Disability Insurance premiums. All LEOFF I and LEOFF II employees must purchase a minimum Life Insurance policy through the Police Association.

    It is mandatory that both the City and the employee pay into the Department of Retirement Systems for Washington State.

    Three voluntary Deferred Compensation programs are available for employee participation.

    A Flexible Spending Plan is available that allows you to make pre-tax contributions for Health Care reimbursement and/or Dependent Care reimbursement for those expenses not covered by medical insurance.

    The Employee Assistance Program EAP is provided free of charge to employees and family members.

    Benefits for vacation, sick leave, and holidays are paid in accordance with the labor agreement.
