    According to the Census Bureau, The City of Georgetown is the fastest growing City in the United States. Georgetown is known for its beautiful town square, and year-round events.

    Police Officers are visible in the community where they serve. The primary purpose is to protect residents and property by striving to promote voluntary compliance to laws and ordinances through being visible, the use of enforcement, problem-solving, and public education.

    • Duties for officers include patrols assigned geographical area to prevent crimes; enforces laws and ordinances; responds to calls via Dispatch.
    • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; takes necessary action.
    • Identifies problems and crime trends within geographically assigned area.
    • Questions witnesses, complainants, victims and suspects; takes statements and affidavits.
    • Completes reports; processes arrests reports and affidavits.
    • Conducts investigations of traffic accidents and criminal offenses; makes arrests.
    • Directs traffic, escorts traffic, operates traffic radar monitoring equipment, issues traffic citations.
    • Records facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.
    • Reviews facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations have occurred.
    • Appears/testifies in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases.
    • Provides security at special events throughout the community, schools, and city functions.
    • Performs other law enforcement, investigative, technical and educational duties as assigned.
    In addition to a complete application, please attach:
    • A copy of your High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
    • A copy of your DD214 (if applicable)
    • TCOLE License and Service Record (if applicable)
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of hire.
    • Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have an equivalency certificate (GED).
    • Have a valid Texas driver's license at the date of hire.
    • Be a citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization.
    • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
    • Be of good moral character.
    • Shall not be prohibited from carrying a firearm or possessing ammunition.
    Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications will receive an email from the Georgetown Police Department's Professional Standards Division (PSD) issuing a background packet to be completed and submitted within 60 days. Successful completion of the background packet will advance applicants to the next stage in the hiring process. Applicants who fail to submit a properly completed background packet within the 60 days will be removed from the process.

    Hiring Process:
    • Successfully submit the completed background packet issued by PSD within 60 days.
    • Successfully complete a pre-screen interview.
    • Achieve a minimum passing raw score of seventy-four (74) percent on the written examination.
    • Successfully complete the BPAD written assessment. (Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device)
    • Successfully complete the physical ability test. (Leopard Course)
    • Obtain a minimum cumulative score of 225 between the written exam, B-PAD, Leopard Course.
    • Pass a background investigation.
    • Pass oral board interview.
    • Pass a polygraph examination.
    • Pass Chief interview.
    • Successfully complete post-job offer drug screen, psychological and physical examinations, and a fingerprint background check.
    Eligibility List:

    First preference will be given to applicants who possess a TCOLE Peace Officer certification.

    Second preference will be given to applicants who do not possess a TCOLE Peace Officer certification.

    Applicants will be assigned scores based on the results of their written exam, B-PAD, Leopard Course, and Military & Law enforcement service credit, if applicable.

    Effective October 6, 2025, the starting salary for Police Officers is $73,944 annually with additional stipends based on qualifications.

    Lateral Pay:

    Lateral pay is available and commensurate with experience. Lateral candidates hired under the program will be placed upon entry at the step schedule commensurate with their years of experience, up to and including step ten (10).

    Lateral pay is only available to those with at least one (1) year of prior work experience as
    • a certified peace officer in a municipal law enforcement agency with 911 service response with a population of no less than 10,000 residents,
    OR
    • a county law enforcement agency with 911 service response and a population of 50,000 or greater.


    Disqualification Period:

    Applicants who are disqualified or removed from the process for any reason must wait a minimum period of six (6) months before reapplying. If there was a specific defect which has a specified compliance period, the applicant must wait that amount of time before reapplying.
