Summary
Uses a combination of telephone, radio, and other forms of communication to identify and dispatch the closest, most appropriate emergency vehicle to specific emergencies. Utilizes an advanced computer system including multiple screens and software programs. Understands and adequately implements the concepts of Emergency Medical Dispatch as published in Principles of Emergency Medical Dispatch (and as customized by AMR) as a minimum standard of care. Allocates EMS resources properly as the need arises by application of appropriate decision-making rules and approved protocols. Responsible and accountable for completeness and accuracy of paperwork as well as data entry related to their position prior to completion of shift. Answers telephone calls from citizens and representatives from medical facilities requesting emergent and non-emergent transportation, collects information accurately, and leads the caller through the call.
