    Overview

    The Public Works Technician II - Vegetation objective is to maintain and mow the City's right-of-way and drainage ditches. The function of this position is to operate various types of machinery such as: Trucks, Slope Mowers, Batwings Mowing Tractors, Flats Mowing Tractors, Zero Turns Mowers, operating weed-eaters, and chain saws. The technician will use brooms, shovels, picks, lopping shears, rakes, and pole saws to ensure tasks are completed

    Responsibilities
    • Mows City Drainage Rights-of-way and obey all local and State traffic laws, following all City Policies
    • Performs daily vehicle inspections which consist of checking fluids, tires, wipers, lights, lock nuts on blades, safety equipment, etc.
    • Picks up all trash along the street and ditch right-of-way prior to mowing operations
    • Uses mechanical grabbers and puts in trash bags, when truck is full, takes to dump
    • Fills in all blanks on forms with requested information such as Daily vehicle inspection forms, Daily Mowing Logs, Work Order Forms, Employee statements, and leave request forms
    • Follows the TxDot traffic control standards as per the TEEX Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
    • Provides entry-level assistance to mowing crews by general understanding of OSHA regulations and safety issues, basic knowledge of hazards of construction trades, ability to use M.S.D.S. sheets
    • Understands movement around mowing zones with knowledge of the areas
    • Works with hand and power tools, operates tools and equipment to maintain the R.O. W. and drainage system
    • Operates motorized equipment and weed eats around poles, signs, guardrails, inlets, electrical boxes, cable towers, and along fences where needed

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
    • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
    • Non - Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday 6:30am - 3:30pm
    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Two (2) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required
    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

    Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:
    • Criminal Background Check: Yes
    • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes
    • Drug Screening: Yes
    • Physical Exam: Yes
    • FBI Background Check: No
    • Police Background Check: No
    • Clearing House Query (CDL): No

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
