Definition
Under general supervision, to perform the full range of animal control officer duties while also carrying out advanced responsibilities, which include managing the animal shelter contract, collaborating with allied agencies, and assisting supervisory or management staff in overseeing and implementing the city's animal control program; and to perform related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced journey-level classification in the animal control officer class series. Incumbents perform the full scope of animal control duties and additionally assist designated supervisory or management staff with the coordination, planning, organization, and implementation of the city's animal control program. Positions at this level exercise independent judgment in carrying out routine to complex animal control activities and may provide training and instruction to lower-level animal services staff. This senior-level classification does not provide lead or supervisory direction.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from high school; and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in animal care, handling, and protection performing duties similar to the city of Rocklin's animal control officer.
