    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is looking for a Public Safety Aide. In this position you will have to investigate traffic crashes and various delayed crimes, including, but not limited to, auto theft, burglary, fraud, larceny, lost/found property, lost/ found animals, missing persons and vandalism.
    NOTE: The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Conducts preliminary investigations of non-violent criminal offenses and prepares appropriate police offense/incident reports

    • Directs traffic as necessary
    • Examines accident scene for signs of physical evidence
    • Investigates non-emergency citizen complaints
    • Responds to issues related to code enforcement and parking enforcement; prepares and serves notices or corrects existing violations
    • Issues citations for parking violations
    • Processes crime scenes for latent fingerprints and other physical evidence
    • Performs liaison functions between police authorities and community
    • Makes contacts with businesses and residents in assigned work areas to deliver department information and/or build community relationships
    • Provides security as assigned by supervisor
    • Performs administrative duties such as maintenance of investigative logs; collects, sorts and files police reports, pawn slips and evidence slips

    JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    5. Complete a State of Florida approved traffic crash investigation and court presentation course
    6. Be able to successfully complete a Parking Enforcement Specialist Program and receive a State of Florida certification to write and issue tickets
    7. Possess or be able to obtain a State of Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire
    8. Be able to obtain Notary Public, Traffic Certification, Federal Crime Information Center (FCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification.

    The current policy of the Fort Lauderdale police department prohibits body markings, tattoos, and scarification that are of a nature to bring discredit upon the Police Department. Examples include, but are not limited to, those that are drug-related, gang-related, extremist, obscene, indecent, sexist, or racist. Additionally, they should not depict intolerance or discrimination against any race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identification. Tattoos, body marking or scarifications not described above should be concealable in a long sleeve shirt and long pant police uniform. Any other tattoo, branding or scarification will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Will you be able to meet these requirements?
