CDOC cannot guarantee housing, and does not operate the housing.Position DescriptionThe Correctional Officer II is accountable for providing lead work/limited supervision responsibilities. Work may include assignment to a single or multiple control center locations (e.g., mail room, meal hall, meal cart movement, canteen, visitation center, medical facility, housing units, etc.). Employees must coordinate activities of others in regulating inmates, civilians, property, security, custody and control functions.Position maintains the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; duties include, but are not limited to:Providing lead work guidance and training to assigned positionsRecommending assignments for correctional officersProviding input into performance plansPromoting and maintaining a safe and secure environment through observation, communication, adherence to ARs, facility adjustments, and the Code of Penal DisciplineEnforcing statutes, regulations, orders, directives, and proceduresManaging inmate behavior and encouraging accountability through professional communicationMonitoring and controlling access to the facility and restricted areasTraining staff on proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicalsEnforcing security procedures via work-site searches, inmate counts, contraband control, searches, and transportResponding to emergencies and preparing required reportsMay be required to seize, hold, control, and/or subdue violent or threatening personsPositions are subject to working additional hours and/or shifts to maintain safety and security.Minimum QualificationsRequired: High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of corrections related experience, law enforcement patrol experience, or military experience. Experience must be clearly described in the "Work Experience" section of your application with each position separated by job classification, duties, and dates. Any work experience less than full time will be prorated. Substitution: College coursework may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
