    General Function

    The N.C. Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) Instructor (Part-time) will provide classroom and psychomotor skill instruction in accordance with the approved course curriculum and lesson plans of the NCDAC, maintain timely and complete documentation associated with student and College records, and ensure the security and confidentiality of student information and student records.
    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Possess an unexpired General Instructor Certification issued by the N.C. Department of Justice (NCDOJ) and/or N.C. Justice Academy (NCJA)
    • Applicant must be approved to teach by the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections, Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) - Director
    • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license
    Working Conditions
    • Classroom, lab, or shop environment
    • Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress
    • Some light lifting of materials pertaining to classroom training set-up, and physical demonstration of psychomotor skill training topics
    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    The duties of the NCDAC Instructor include, but are not limited to:
    • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
    • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
    • Connect the subject matter with real life on-the-job examples
    • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development; periodic training updates and specialty certification renewals; and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops
    • Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
    • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
    • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
    • Deliver all subject material following NCDAC lesson plans verbatim
    • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through effective classroom interactions with students
    • Function effectively as a team member
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and maintain required records management documentation, and submit final grade rosters to division administrator within established workflow deadlines.
    • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives as outlined in Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) lesson plans
    • Perform assessments to evaluate student's understanding of subject matter and psychomotor skill proficiency in accordance with lesson plan guidelines
    • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
