Traffic Signs & Markings Helper - BC-05

Job Title

Assists in the fabrication of traffic signs and the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and a variety of pavement markings; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties

• Assists in painting pavement markings by setting trafficcones on freshly painted lines to keep traffic from smearing paint.
• Assists in the application of various thermoplastic materials and raised pavement markers; performs other duties related to pavement markings.
• Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs.
• Assists the painters by removing the old reflective sheeting and sanding, filing, and cleaning the plates for application of new reflective sheeting.
• Assists in sign fabrication by screen process method or electro-cut applications.
• Weeds electro-cut vinyl and applies transfer tape to signage; applies signage to reflective sheeted sign plates.
• Assists in the maintenance of all vehicles and pavement markings and sign maintenance equipment.
• Follows all safety laws, policies, and rules related to the traffic signs and markings operation.
• Operates vehicle to transport equipment, supplies, and employees to worksite.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:

• graduation from high school, and
• one (1) year of work experience in preparing various surfaces and applying coats of paint and other coatings by brush, roller, spray gun and other means, and
• possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire.)

Note: a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate is required prior to appointment. Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.
