    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Hourly Security Assistant is responsible for providing general office and security services support for the Office of Safety & Security (OSS) team members. This position will provide support for OSS projects, and will perform backup support for administrative assistants, dispatchers and security monitor assistants as needed. This Security Assistant will be responsible for providing support and completing tasks for all of the work units in the OSS. The incumbent will be assigned to a Safety & Security Leadership Team member (Director of Security, Chief of Police or Emergency Management Compliance Officer) by the Executive Director of Safety & Security.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Demonstrates quality customer service skills through both verbal and written communications.
    • Reviews Office of Safety & Security correspondence and communication materials for completeness, accuracy, and proper format.
    • Provides general administrative assistance to the OSS leadership team in preparation for weekly leadership team meeting, staff syncs, and quarterly all-hands departmental professional learning sessions.
    • Works collaboratively with OSS staff to support development and delivery of trainings to central office departments and school-based staff.
    • Assists in development, maintenance, and updating of the safety website and related files, including providing desktop publishing and graphic design support for the preparation of a variety of safety program materials and manuals.
    • Provides records management support for distribution of incident reports and lost/damaged property reports.
    • Supports planning, research, and implementation activities relating to all aspects of public safety in a public school system environment.
    • Compiles security reports and policy documents, prepares safety presentation materials for internal/external audiences, and researches safety concerns/requests from school-based staff.
    • Assists in reviewing and coding OSS invoices and related vendor documentation and preparing monthly reports for the Executive Director of Safety & Security.
    • Provides support in seeking and applying for grant funding opportunities that support public safety initiatives and focus on advancing security in a school system environment.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Ability to use applicable HR information systems.
    • Knowledge and use of MS Office software.
    • Ability to set objectives and deliver results in a timely manner.
    • Effective written and oral communication.
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate the effective use of basic independent judgment.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    EDUCATION:
    High School Diploma or GED required.

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
    Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation, or the availability to get to off-site meetings.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:
    Two (2) years clerical experience in fast-paced environment.

    COMPENSATION
    SALARY GRADE: Hourly

    SALARY: $20.00 Hourly Salary Schedules - Atlanta Public Schools

    WORK DAYS: Hourly (cannot exceed 29 hours per week)

    Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.
    Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
    Strength: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, gripping, feeling, seeing/observing and carrying. Must exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, over 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or over 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; Regular exposure to weather, including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity.
    Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress

    Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites. Extended hours may be required depending on each situation. Must understand and have full knowledge of the occupational hazards in using power tools and equipment and of necessary safety precautions. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices.
