Responsible for processing background check requests for potential sponsors of unaccompanied children. They receive background check requests (both fingerprint and child abuse and neglect), work with respective federal or state agencies to compile existing information. Coordination of the delivery of that information to the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) or ACF designee. They are responsible for timely email request responses and coordination, as well as evaluating various database searches for potential sponsor information. They are expected to serve in an advisory capacity to the SAI's based on their additional experience.
There are two primary areas that SAI's will work in:
Sponsor Checks focus primarily on matching received request paperwork with Special Agency Check (SAC) results received from OPM (Office of Personnel Management), and then open, process, and closing cases in an Office of Security and Strategic Information (OSSI) electronic database. There is considerable follow up with OPM, ACF personnel, and ACF designees.
Child Abuse and Neglect Checks (CA/N) focus primarily on receiving requests and coordinating with state child protective services to receive CA/N records for potential sponsors.
